The Best Dairy Free Butter

All the butter’s on the list are readily available at my local Tesco. I have used all them over the years and honestly they are all great. The different alternative butter’s are good for different things and I will give details of which I use for baking, making frosting and just general use in sandwiches and on toast.

I have included the ingredients as shown on the Tesco website so you can make sure my suggestions are suitable for your dietary needs.

Stork Block

This is wonderfully vegan! As it says on the packaging is is fantastic for scones and pastry.

This is my go to when making pastry, scones and cookies. This is also my preferred choice for making flapjacks. I will sometimes use it for cakes, it is not the best but it’s okay.

Ingredients: Vegetable Oils in varying proportions (70%) (Rapeseed, Palm¹, Sunflower), Water, Salt (1.5%), Emulsifiers (Lecithin, Mono and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids), Acid (Lactic Acid), Colours (Beta-Carotene), Vitamin A and D, Flavourings

Flora Plant Butter

Flora has a range of plant based butters and they have done really well with the taste. I would say these are the closest to tasting like real butter. out of the ones on the list this is the most versatile. I have used this for all my baking needs, making frosting and cooking.

The only downside is this contains faba bean, which until recently my youngest would react to. So if you also have legume related or bean allergies just be careful.

Ingredients: Plant Oils (Coconut, Rapeseed, Sunflower, in varying proportions), Water, Faba Bean Preparation, Emulsifier (Lecithin), Natural Flavourings, Colour (Carotenes

Flora spreadable plant based butter

This is as the name suggests perfect for spreading. It’s ideal for sandwiches, toast and cooking.

It shares the same issue as the other Flora plant butter with having faba bean as an ingredient.

Ingredients: Plant Oils (Sunflower, Coconut, Rapeseed), Filtered Water, Seasalt (1, 1%), Fava Bean Preparation, Plant Based Emulsifier (Sunflower Lecithin), Natural Flavourings, Colourant (Beta-Carotene)

Vitalite Dairy Free

This is another great everyday butter that is perfect for spreading. This is our go to butter for everyday use and I have found it in more shops then any other of these dairy free butters. Including real small corner shops. It’s taste good. I’ve also used it for baking cakes.

Ingredients: Vegetable Oils in varying proportions (Rapeseed, Sustainable Palm, Sunflower), Water, Salt, Emulsifiers-E471, Lecithins, Preservative-Potassium Sorbate, Acid-Lactic Acid, Flavourings, Colours – Annatto Bixin, Curcumin

Pure Dairy Free Buttery

This is my second choice for an everyday spread. It tastes good and spreads well.

Ingredients: Vegetable Oils (54%) (Rapeseed, Palm), Water, Salt (1.5%), Natural Flavourings, Vitamin E, Vitamin A&D, Natural Colour (Carotenes), Vitamin B12

Flora Lighter

This one isn’t as obviously plant based from the packaging as the others but it is! This is another good option. The main benefit of this one is that it comes in larger tubs than the others. SO if you are someone who likes to buy in larger quantities this ones perfect for you.

Ingredients: Water, Vegetable Oils (Rapeseed, Sunflower, Linseed), Coconut Fat, Salt 1.2%, Emulsifier (Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids), Vinegar, Natural Flavourings, Vitamin A

Pure Dairy Free Sunflower

This is another one from pure. I prefer the buttery version but this is another good option for a spreadable butter.

Ingredients: Vegetable Oils (Sunflower (23%), Rapeseed, Palm), Water, Salt (0.75%), Natural Flavouring, Vitamin E, Vitamin A & D, Natural Colour (Carotenes), Vitamin B12
